Embattled Former Penn State Coach Makes First Public Appearance

An investigation into Jerry Sandusky's sex scandal moves forward

Penn State head football coach Joe Paterno will speak at his regular weekly press conference Tuesday, his first public appearance since being named in the indictment that brought sexual abuse charges against his longtime assistant coach, Jerry Sandusky, reports ABC News.

Sandusky is charged with molesting at least eight boys over 15 years, at least three of whom were brought to the attention of employees at Penn State who failed to report the incidents to police.

Paterno, who was made aware of at least one of the incidences in 2002, didn’t report the incident to the police, but told university administrators that a graduate assistant had seen Sandusky attacking a young boy in the team's locker room shower.

Though Paterno has not been charged with any crime, state police commissioner Frank Noonan said that, “although Paterno may have met his legal requirement to report suspected abuse by Sandusky, somebody has to question about what I would consider the moral requirements for a human being that knows of sexual things that are taking place with a child.

"Facebook users, including those on a newly created group called "Joe Paterno should resign," expressed outrage and disappointment in Paterno. Many said Paterno should have gone to police after the 2002 incident.

The indictment also cited a 1998 incident in which an 11-year-old boy's mother called university police to complain after learning that her son had showered with Sandusky, reports Associated Press.

A state Department of Public Welfare investigator told the grand jury that Sandusky said he showered naked with the youth and hugged him, "admitted that it was wrong," and promised not to shower with any child again.

Well, deficit sure was not a problem during their 8 years of utter destruction. Jon Stewart even played back them stating it was "healthy" and not a problem at all. 2012 Elections: Flip those floppers!!
