About Us
TheLoop21.com offers insight, resources and opinions on African American issues. Our content serves to advance the debate towards Black economic progress by focusing on finance, politics and culture.

Darrell Williams
Darrell Williams is an economist whose career spans academic, government and business. For more than a decade, he's advised Fortune 500 companies and government agencies on business strategy, competition policy and economic regulation, first as a partner at Economic Analysis LLC, then as a Director at global consulting firm LECG LLC. As an economics professor at UCLA, he focused on methods to help students understand and apply economics in their jobs and in their daily decision-making. Darrell began his professional career in Washington D.C. at the President's Council of Economic Advisors and worked on financial markets while in the Office of the Chief Economist at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

Shu-Fy Pongnon
Shu-Fy H. Pongnon is Deputy Editor at Loop21.com where she has taken on the formidable task of managing a smart, creative team of journalists and staff. The plan is to maximize everyone’s ability to bring TheLoop21.com’s audience the best in news and news analysis through the lens of the African American experience. Fresh off the “belief beat” as the assistant news director for Currents – a nightly television newscast covering stories of faith – she drove increased coverage of breaking and mainstream news and led the newsroom to its first New York Emmy nomination. Her work has spanned the media platform spectrum as the executive producer of I&I Exchange – a Caribbean family focused television newsmagazine program – and as a writer for The Haitian Times and Caribbean Life. Born in the “Boogie Down” Bronx and raised (mostly) in New York’s county of Kings, she credits her grandmother’s kitchen for whetting her appetite for exquisite Haitian food and compelling storytelling. She would later carry her appetite and basics of storytelling to New York University, earning a Master of Arts in Broadcast Journalism. Shu-Fy currently lives in Park Slope. And when she’s not typing away at a computer, or working the phones for a story, you can find her dancing off the years of griot and accra in a Zumba class.

Maurice Garland
Born in Pittsburgh, PA raised in Decatur, GA, you've read or seen Maurice Garland's print and photo work in a number of magazines including XXL, VIBE, KING, RIDES, Ozone and The Source. He has appeared on Vh1's Behind the Music and has been quoted by The New York Times, Boston Globe and MTV. A graduate of Fort Valley State University, Garland has spoken at Morehouse College, Clark Atlanta University and Princeton University. He is also frequent concert host and unofficial tour guide in Atlanta. He performs all of his own stunts.

Aaron Morrison
Aaron Morrison is an award-winning, New York City-based multimedia journalist, who got his start three years ago as a newspaper and wire service reporter. Aaron has worked as a general assignment reporter for the Daily Record (Gannett) in northern New Jersey. Before that, he was an intern and then a temporary legislative reporter for The Associated Press' Baltimore and New Jersey statehouse bureaus. In joining Loop21.com, Aaron has finally gone all digital, as his journalism professors predicted long ago.

Danielle Cheesman
Born and raised in Teaneck, N.J., Danielle spent her life living a hop, skip, and jump away from the beckonings of New York City - save for a 4-year stint at Temple University where she, much to people's dismay, did not meet Bill Cosby. The daughter of a seamstress mother and jazz-loving father, she is obsessively passionate about all words, sounds, and aesthetics. Her work has appeared in GIANT Magazine and Philadelphia Weekly, as well as on MSN.
