Does J.C. Penny Promote Bullying?
The retailer has received complains saying the back-to-school commercial is offensive.
As back-to-school shopping season is in full effect, there is one store some parents are refusing to go into.
J.C. Penney ran a back-to-school ad earlier this summer to promote their “First Day Look” campaign for children and some parents are saying it promotes bullying.
The ad features the voiceover of a mom talking about her children’s clothing choices and says, “I’ve been told that this stuff can make or break an entire year,” while a child sits alone at a lunchroom table.
Parents have complained on J.C. Penney’s Facebook page saying the ad is offensive because it shows that a child sits alone because his clothes are not cool enough and will be bullied.
The retailer has responded to some of the comments saying it appreciates their concerns.
“Out intent was not to trivialize or promote bullying. At J.C. Penny, we’re committed to carrying a broad range of styles that let kids express their individuality and make a positive first impression.”
