University Demands Diversity
After the 50th anniversary of the Birmingham Bombings, Alabama still faces racism.
Recently, the University of Alabama instructed the school-sponsored sororities to extend recruitment efforts to more minorities.
The school was recently in the news for having racially biased Greek organizations. It was reported that some sororities had been denying membership to African-American students.
University President, Judy L. Bonner told the Greek organizations to increase diversity and remove racial barriers. She recommended that sororities and fraternities use a different approach during traditional rush.
Are the University’s efforts enough? What do you think needs to be done about the lack of diversity in some sororities and fraternities?
