Loretta Devine: "Chris Brown Wasn’t the First Man to Ever Hit Somebody"

Brown's former co-star comes to his defense

It's anyone's guess how Bravo got a seasoned actress like Loretta Devine to appear on their reality TV-themed gossip talk show "Watch What Happens Live!" But she did.

After fielding questions about which woman in Hollywood has the worst weave (it's a Real Housewife of Atlanta, by the way), and which male celebrity she'd not be surprised to hear is on a client list, the "Waiting to Exhale" actress was asked the standard industry question about Rihanna and Chris Brown's relationship.

Devine and Brown worked together on their 2007 holiday film This Christmas and she had this to say about the former couple:

"I don't think they ever split up. So, there. Love is love, you know? And he wasn’t the first one to hit somebody. Uh-oh, I'm in trouble now. They acted like he was the first man to ever hit somebody or whatever. I'm just saying I don't think they ever split up. From knowing him, he's a very youthful boy. On [the set of] This Christmas, he was doin' stuff like skeeting water on the back of your neck and sneezing, going 'Hi, Loretta!' So, I dunno. I don't think they ever split up. You know she was dating [Matt] Kemp of the Dodgers for a little while, but I think that was to just throw everybody off."
