New teachers hired in Atlanta schools
Atlanta Public Schools have started their school year after receiving national attention for a state investigation which revealed widespread cheating.
The investigation alleges cheating in standardized tests in at least 44 of the district's school and involves 180 teachers and 38 principals.
“If I wasn’t the parent from hell before, I will be the parent from hell," says Atlanta parent Shawnna Hayes-Tavare. “I was already questioning things, but I wasn’t questioning hard enough. I wasn’t following my gut because I trusted. Now I am going to follow my intuition and question everything.”
About 100 teachers were removed from classrooms less than a month before classes started, according to the Associated Press. New teachers and substitutes have been brought in to the schools.
