The Braxton Sisters Talk Failed Relationships and New Careers
Trina's going solo, Toni tries dating her ex and Traci has a new passion
Braxton Family Values kicked off last week with ratings success thanks to fiery arguments between the sisters and a showdown between youngest sibling Tamar Braxton and Momma Evelyn.
It not only ranked number one for women between the ages of 18-34, it also peaked at number one for African American women in all demographics. It's safe to say, the sisters are back with more laughs, love and drama like Traci kicking Towanda and her husband out of their house to focus on re-building her own marriage.
Loop 21 caught up with the Braxtons while they shot new episodes in New York City. The women discussed new careers, new relationships and turning their mother into a cougar.
Loop 21: Trina, we learned in season one that you had a severe drinking problem and we saw you arrested for DUI. Is your life moving in a more positive direction?
Trina: I have made some changes. Number one, I don’t drink and drive anymore. If I drink I will stay home or get a car service. When you saw that photo of me arrested for DUI with my wig off; the cop just ripped the wig off. I am also launching my solo career. My sisters hate my band. I love it. It is a thirteen piece band. I don’t have a name yet so I am going to let my fans pick the name via social networking.
Loop 21: Towanda, we saw you were not happy working as Toni’s personal assistant. What is your career direction now?
Towanda: Working with Toni did bring us closer together. It was great working with her. I always want her to succeed. Now I am following my passion for acting. I’m a natural.
Loop 21: Traci, we saw you were frustrated trying to revive your singing career. What is new for you in season two?
Traci: My old passion is back. I went to beauty school and I am going to have a salon; not a recession salon that closes, but one that is successful.
Loop 21: Tamar, your family says they are waiting for you to become a mother. Are you planning to have children?
Tamar: I don’t know. Vince and I have only been married three years. We’re still newlyweds. Everyone is trying to rush me to have children. No to having a baby now.
Loop 21: We know your mother has gone through drama with your father and now she’s forgiving him while moving on her with her own love life. All of you have your relationship issues yet you’re still trying to set her up.
Tamar: Oh yes, we’re arranging blind dates with hot younger men. My mother is a cougar. We don’t need Stella because Evelyn got her groove back.
Towanda: We want mom to experience different things and enjoy younger men.
Evelyn: But I don’t like dating kids.
Loop 21: Trina, we see you are looking for men despite being married.
Trina: Yes, I may take applications, but I have to admit I’ve never dated a black man. Season two, I am facing new challenges. I am working on a tumultuous relationship. My husband Gabe put a GPS system on my phone. He is mad because Towanda and her family are staying at our place, and he forces me to tell them they have to leave.
Loop 21: Toni, you separated from your husband Keri Lewis, but we see in season two that you started dating him again. What is going on?
Toni: We legally separated, but did not divorce because of our children. We tried getting back together but it didn’t work.
Loop 21: You filed for bankruptcy last year claiming nearly 20 million dollars in debt yet you have a beautiful new home in L.A.
Toni: Bankruptcy worked out for me and I moved from Atlanta to Los Angeles. I am starting all over again and it’s working out so far.
Loop 21: The first season became known for the angry confrontations and in season two we see you and Tamar arguing about you dating Keri.
Tamar: Everyone has been ganging up on me for things I said last season on the show. I was mad and when I found out Toni was trying to get back together with Keri I told her she didn’t know what she was doing and walked out of the room.
Evelyn: I had to set her straight and tell her she would not disrespect the family and let her know I will slap her.
Loop 21: Toni, there were rumors you were dating Terrence J from “106 & Park” which you denied, and you say it didn’t work out with Keri. So what is the status of your love life?
Toni: My mom dated a “snowman,” a Caucasian, and she told me I should catch one. Trina never dated a black man. I had never gone outside of my race so I tried it. I am playing in the snow even before winter begins.
Braxton Family Values airs every Thursday on WeTV at 9/8C.
