Social Security on the Chopping Block? x Rihanna Cancels Shows x The Muppets do WWE
The Department of Justice is suing for an injunction against South Carolina, which recently passed a strong restrictive law against immigration. Under their law, passed in June, and scheduled to go into effect January 1, police would create an Illegal Immigration Enforcement Unit. The law would also allow people to sue any public official that doesn’t enforce the law. These laws cross “a constitutional line” said U.S. Assistant Attorney General Tony West.
President Obama said not to touch social security. The Democratic Party said not to touch it. The Congressional Black Caucus said the same and Rep. Maxine Waters is ready to go to the mat. That time has arrived. The congressional supercommittee tasked with significantly reducing the deficit has decided to look at social security for cuts to the budget. House Speaker John Boehner says that carving up social security, and other benefits programs like Medicaid and Medicare, would be the same as when former president Bill Clinton had to carve up welfare under a Republican Congress.
Just like how he defended Donovan McNabb when he said Black quarterbacks are judged differently, Rush Limbaugh is now running to the defense of Herman Cain, calling the Politico sexual harassment story on him a “hit job.” He went onto say that the media treats Black conservatives harsher than Black liberals and it that it’s just not right. Yeah, this is exactly what Cain needs to get more Black votes, a Rush co-sign.
President Obama is one healthy black man. According to a two-page report from the White House the POTUS has given up smoking completely and got his cholesterol levels down since his last physical in 2010. However his blood pressure did go up a couple points, but it’s still within normal levels. His vision is 20/20 and that cut on his lip he got from playing basketball a while back has healed nicely.
Comedian and late night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel is set to host the White House Correspondent’s Dinner on April 28, 2012. “I look forward to being a part of the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner. I love dinner,” Kimmel joked. Kimmel will join a bevy of comedians to have the honor including Jay Leno, Stephen Colbert,* Jon Stewart* and Seth Meyers.
Rihanna had to cancel a concert in Malmö due to flu symptoms. The pop singer tweeted, “Sorry Malmo!!! #LOUDtour,” along with a picture of an IV tube in her arm. Live Nation also released a statement, saying Rihanna is “not in condition to conduct the concert.” Rihanna later released her own statement: “I am sorry to everyone who was coming out to my show in Malmo, Switzerland. I was so excited to perform for you all.”
