A look at the celebrities who have dropped the most dough on getting married
Kim Kardashian is not alone in spending the cost of the entire yearly budget of a small country on a wedding. Below a look at other celebrities who believe that when it comes to weddings, bigger is better.
Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries: The rumored price tag for the doomed union is believed to be in the neighborhood of $10 million. Of course few believe that Kardashian paid anywhere near that amount—if anything at all—thanks to generous gifts and discounts from brands looking to gain exposure from coverage of the reality tv extravaganza.
Paul McCartney and Heather Mills: In 2002 one of the most beloved figures in modern music married a woman who would soon become one of the most reviled. Paul McCartney’s wedding to Heather Mills reportedly cost around 3 million dollars. That figure pales in comparison to $50 million McCartney is said to have shelled out to Mills for a divorce six years later.
Prince William and Kate Middleton: What has already been dubbed the wedding of the century (at least so far), the wedding of Prince William, heir to the British throne, to college classmate Kate Middleton is believed to have cost more than $30 million. Much of the expense involved security, but two separate parties related to the affair are said to have cost more than half a million a piece.
Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer: At $5 million for the actual festivities, and over $100 million in today’s dollars if you calculate nationwide security costs, (according to ABC News) the wedding of Prince William’s parents remains one of the most expensive celebrity weddings on record. The bride’s dress alone cost more than $100,000.
Liza Minnelli and David Gest: Corralling and entertaining an audience full of celebs doesn’t come cheap. For her fourth wedding in 2002, Minnelli and groom David Gest are estimated to have spent $3.5 million dollars to mount an extravaganza attended by the likes of Elton John, Diane Sawyer and Elizabeth Taylor. Natalie Cole serenaded the couple with her hit “Unforgettable.” They divorced in 2007.
