New York's 'Save the Date' Campaign, More About Money Than Gay Marriage
1 year ago
Businesses to boom because of same-sex marriages
New York has launched "Save the Date," a campaign aimed to attract same-sex couples who plan on getting married.
ILOVENY.com is offering wedding and honeymoon packages and is set to "establish New York as a premier destination location for same-sex weddings."
Adoption lawyers and agencies are also preparing for a baby boom among gay couples.
The gay marriage bill was approved last month and will take effect on July 24. Businesses have started to grab the attention of same-sex couples. "It's hard to know how big the market will grow,'' said Kathryn Hamm, president of gayweddings.com, a national website catering to same-sex couples looking to marry. "We just hope that it is as big as some of the projections we have been hearing.''
A study by Senate Democrats assumes 21,000 same-sex couples from New York will say "I do" in the state, plus an additional 3,300 couples who will travel there to tie the knot.
