Princeton Professor and civil rights activist Cornel West went in on Rev. Al Sharpton and Melissa Harris Parry in a recent interview with Diverse Magazine.
West, who got into a heated debate with Sharpton in a forum on MSNBC earlier this year, seems to still hold resentment towards the reverend.

The main figure in all of this seems to be the Obama White House who West and Tavis Smiley have been critical of; and Sharpton and Harris-Perry have defended historically.
West said, “Whoever thought that Brother Al wouldn’t be protesting any administration?” “You watch his show on MSNBC and you want to say, ‘Brother Al, you come out of the Black prophetic tradition like me. Tell the truth about the White House,’ but he won’t say a mumbling word.”
He then went on a rant directed at Harris-Perry who has disagreed publicly in the past about the president with West.
“I have a love for the sister, but she is a liar, and I hate lying,” says West, adding that Harris-Perry later said on MSNBC’s “The Ed Show” that West attacked Obama’s White mother in an interview. “I don’t talk about people’s mamas. She’s reinforcing all of the vicious perceptions of me as a racist, and she knows better than that.”

With an election year upon us, it will be interesting to see how much power West and Smiley will hold in guiding the black vote. But what both of these parties fail to understand is that there is power in numbers and instead of fighting, they should come together and work to fight against voter ID laws and other issues affecting the black community.
