Facebook Announces New Search Engine
The new 'graph search' feature includes a partnership with Bing.com.
At a press event in Menlo Park, California, CEO of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg introduced a search engine for the social network called “graph search.” Although the graph search is a partnership with Bing, Zuckerberg was sure to make the distinction between graph search and web search. He demonstrated how graph search will deliver answers to questions like, “Who are my friends that live in San Francisco?” and be able to pull content for inquiries such as “Mexican restaurants in Palo Alto, Calif, my friends have been to” or “Photos of me and Priscilla.” Graph search is said to focus on people, photos, places, and interests and will pull from Bing.com if any results cannot be found on Facebook.
The new feature is still in closed beta form but users who want to sign up for the test can join the waiting list on Facebook’s website. (CBS News)
