President kicks off holiday season with White House tradition
Back from a historic trip to Asia and settling down from his hard-fought re-election campaign, President Barack Obama will awake at the White House on Wednesday to take care of White House holiday business. He’ll pardon the national Thanksgiving turkey, a presidential tradition started by President John F. Kennedy in 1963. The ceremony will take place Wednesday afternoon in the Rose Garden. (To watch it live at 2 p.m. ET, click here.) For the first time, the American public got to decide which bird would get the pardon, “Cobbler” or “Gobbler,” by voting on the White House Facebook page.
