Romeo & Juliet Gets Modernized
Sorry, Leonardo Dicaprio you’re old news now.
Shakespeare’s play has some new faces on Broadway this year. Orlando Bloom, who plays Romeo, will have a new love interest in Juliet, who is played by Black Actress Condola Rashad.
Condola is the 26-year-old daughter of actress Phylicia Rashad (you know, the mom from “The Cosby Show”) and sportscaster, Ahmad Rashad.
In addition to the new faces of color to the classic play, the story itself will be modernized as well. The play will be set in a timeless, unspecified location, neither here nor there.
The stage is set up with sand and graffiti. Actors also wear earth-tones, shawls, and are often barefoot.
Are you excited for the newly adapted, interracial Shakespeare play?
