Hunter responds to criticism, calling newspaper article "hurtful" and "not true."

Detroit Tigers outfielder Torii Hunter is defending himself following criticism he has received since being quoted in a weekend Los Angeles Times article about the lack of athletes who acknowledge being gay while they are still playing professionally. According to the Los Angeles Times Sunday in an article by Kevin Baxter, Hunter cites his Christian faith and says that he would find it difficult to be supportive of a teammate who was gay, adding that it could cause division among any Major League Baseball team.“For me, as a Christian…I will be uncomfortable because in all my teachings and all my learning, biblically, it’s not right,” the article quotes Hunter as saying.

Now, Baxter has taken to Twitter to say that the article “misrepresented” his views. He tweeted, “I’m very disappointed in Kevin Baxter’s article in which my quotes and feelings have been misrepresented--I am not anti anything and to be portrayed as anti-gay in this article is hurtful and just not true.” (Yahoo Sports)
