Public posts get teens in hot water
Folks looking for signs that racism is alive and well are finding just that in young people across the country. Jezebel, Gawker's female-driven culture website, uncovered what they call "an abundance of hate speech on Twitter" after Barack Obama won reelection Tuesday, from more than a dozen teenagers throughout the nation.
The piece listed numerous examples of high school and college students posting blatantly racist comments and the consequences that were leveled upon the students once various school administrators found out what they were saying. Many called President Obama the "n-word" and even more referred to him as a monkey.

In one example, Addison Sykes, a football player at Jackson Christian School in Jackson, Tenn., tweeted, "Lol Obama may be the president but even he still needs welfare. #(n----)"
The school's president, Dr. Rick Brooks responded to Jezebel's article and Sykes' comment with following statement:
"Addison's words clearly do not reflect the values that we espouse and teach at Jackson Christian School, and are not representative of our broader school community. As such, we have visited with him about his actions and his attitude, and have disciplined him accordingly. As is our school policy, we will not share information about specific discipline cases.
"Though we find Addison's action and words deplorable, we hope that our continued encouragement and teaching will help him further avoid the mistakes of youth, and will help him to mature as a young man. I hope that you will be able to look beyond what he has done, and toward the man that he can and will become from this unfortunate learning experience."
