The singer re-emerges
D'Angelo surprised fans late last night when he took the stage at the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival. It was his first appearance on a stage in the U.S. since 2000.
The long-time reclusive star was joined by members of the Roots, Parliament Funkadelic and The Time.
Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson introduced the star: "I've been waiting 12 years to say this -- ladies and gentlemen, D'Angelo!" as the crowd roared.

The jam session covered the Beatles, Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin, but no new music.
D'Angelo's spoke only once, near the end of the night, when he shouted: "Do y'all want us to go home yet?"
The performance served as a prelude to an appearance at July's Essence Music Festival and Jay-Z's Made in America concert in Philadelphia this coming September. D'Angelo is also embarking on a European tour.
