Is Pantene's Commercial Effective Towards Women's Rights?
While women certainly have tried their darndest in the fight for equal rights, we still have a long, long way to go.
"At this point in history, popular perception should be different and women should be seen as equal," as stated in a recent PSA by the UN Women, titled "The Autocomplete Truth."
Leave it to Google
In the video, a screen image is shown of a Google search starting with, "Women should," and a list of the most common continuances that pop up below it, which will make you cringe, especially if you are a woman. Hopefully, it will do the same if you are a man, as well, with realization that this is not how it should be anymore. Despite all efforts though, this despicable gender inequality continues.
Pantene pushes the envelope
In a recent, immediately viral commercial, Pantene takes to the world of shampoo ads, bringing forth a whole new spectrum. The truth is that as of late, the common shampoo commercial is very much in tact with a "bro-tastic goofiness" and "mild innuendo" terribly highlighting gender stereotypes.
Pantene, though, sees things differently than the common shampoo brand, and it did something about it. Something magnificent.
Men, women, and society today
With the newest commercial, the highly hushed, yet universally believed differences of a man and a woman-- persuasive versus pushy, neat versus vain, boss versus bossy, are brought to the surface with elegance, grace, and a much-needed punch in the face of society's common beliefs today.
The wicked truth is that 70 percent of men still think women need to downplay their personality in order to be accepted and respected, especially in the workplace. Pantene, with it's new 'Labels Against Women' totally disagrees with that. In doing so, the brand asks everyone to #WhipIt away. Forget the double standards still holding women back today. "Because when you stand strong, you shine," said Pantene, urging women to stand firm in the face of adversity.
