Who Hacked Obama's Twitter?
Oh, that would be the Syrian Electronic Army.
On Monday afternoon, a few tweets were sent out via President Barack Obama's official, verified Twitter account with content including links that redirected tweet-viewers to pro-Bashar al-Assad Youtube videos.
One of which was a tweet regarding the immigration reform, which intended to send readers who clicked the link to a Washington Post article. Instead, what they saw in its place was a video montage of terrorist attacks not only including, but starting with the tragic 9/11.
The Syrian Electronic Army, dubbed a 'hacktivist group' took responsibility for the actions and admitted to breaking into our President's account on ShortSwitch, the link-shortening service similar to Bitly.
Currently, the President's Twitter handle, @BarackObama, is being maintained and used for the Organizing For Action campaign.
The Syrian Electronic Army spoke on its intent, which was to share the truth about what is occurring in their country.
"OFA links that were posted on Twitter and Facebook were hacked and redirected to a video showing the truth about Syria," said one SEA member.
Having managed to access multiple OFA email accounts, as well as MyBarackObama.com and donate.barackobama.com, this hacktivist group knows what its doing and how to do it, and they are not afraid to let that be known.
One SEA member went so far as to take a screenshot of an Organizing For Action member's inbox and sending it to her for deliberate confirmation that they had entered her email.
