Myths About the Causes of ADHD
When it comes to parenting, would you ever think it'd be the cause of ADHD?
Myths regarding causes of ADHD
So many different theories exist regarding what sparked the start of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder in children. Some think it's environmental, others blame bad nutrition/poor diet. Many think the condition is entirely the result of bad parenting. In 2012, a study from Mayo Clinic found that children who were repeatedly exposed to anesthesia at a young age were twice as likely to develop ADHD.
Another factor that has been proven true is genetics. Bad parenting, however, remains a myth with no real data to support it.
The variety of parenting techniques in general is a controversy all its own. From whether or not children should be spanked to how parents should respond when little ones act out in public-- everyone has a different opinion.
A hot topic regarding parenting is the involvement in the lives of their children. This holds highest importance, and the largest issue with regards to abandonment in today's world.
Methods and Consequences
Many parents fall into the trap of allowing their children to run the house-- especially if it's their first-born child. While it's easy to become knee-deep in this issue, it's important to realize that the child will not always be happy, and tears may fall, but discipline is a requirement if you want to raise a well-behaved, respectful child.
If your kid runs your house, s/he will likely grow up to believe that the world revolves around her, and she will expect to be given everything she wants. Don't fall into this trap; you'll only be hurting her in the long run!
