Barclays Center's Security Measures Shift from Jay-Z to Streisand
8 months ago
But arena officials say the change isn't racially motivated
The Barclays Center will only use metal detector wands for security from now on. The new indoor arena, home to the Brooklyn Nets of which Jay-Z is a minority owner, was blasted by critics who felt its choice of security measures was racially-motivated after airport-style metal detectors were used at Jay-Z's slew of shows, but wands were used for a following Barbra Streisand concert. Arena officials denied that claim. "We utilized the first two weeks since the arena opened as an opportunity to test different security methods. After witnessing long lines during events in which we used walk-through magnetometers, we began to utilize hand-held magnetometers at the Barbra Streisand concert Thursday evening," said David Anderson, Barclays Center General Manager.
