Business Buzz: ‘The Bible’ Stands Up Against Big TV Shows

Huge ratings for History network’s miniseries on iconic Christian parables
Jesus is hot. “American Idol” is not. That’s what TV execs and advertisers are learning this week. The latest television ratings show the History network’s “The Bible,” a miniseries that debuted last Sunday, stood up against some of TV heavy hitters. The first installment of the five-part program was seen by 13.1 million people on Sunday. Meanwhile, Idol, which aired twice last week, saws its smallest audience since it debuted more than a decade ago. The Bible even beat AMC’s “The Walking Dead,” one of TV’s most watched shows, which reached 11.3 million people on Sunday. That likely means “The Bible” and more content like it may be in development soon. “Clearly, the passion for this project has resonated with our viewers and across the nation,” said Nancy Dubuc, president of entertainment and media for the A&E networks. "We are thrilled, and the story is only just beginning." The miniseries still has four more installments to go and will conclude on March 31, Easter Sunday. (AP)
