Eddie Murphy to Play Marion Barry in Television Biopic
This Spike Lee Joint will air on HBO
Eddie Murphy may take a break from Tinsel Town and head to the small screen, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Apparently, the comedian will take a very serious role: portraying Marion Barry, former Mayor of Washington, D.C., in an untitled television biopic on HBO.
Spike Lee is already confirmed to direct the biopic with John Ridley (Red Tails) as the screenwriter. All three, Murphy, Lee and Ridley, would executive produce the film.
Barry, who served as mayor of the Nation's Capital from 1979 to 1991 and again from 1995 to 1999, was caught smoking cocaine in a hotel room downtown. He was later arrested and served six months in prison.
