Election Night TV Coverage Drew 67 Million Viewers

Re-election was well watched but not record breaking like in 2008
President Barack Obama made history in being the first African American president to be re-elected to office, but the TV coverage of his re-election wasn’t the ratings record-breaker it was four years ago. An estimated 66.8 million viewers watched election results on network and cable outlet, according to the ratings firms Nielsen Co. In 2008, 71.5 million viewers tuned in to coverage of Obama’s historic election. Nielsen says NBC came out on top among all networks, with 12.1 million viewers during the prime time hours, 8-1 p.m. Fox News’ cable channel had the number two slot with 11.45 million viewers. The other networks: ABC drew 10.52 million viewers, CNN had 9.25 million, CBS had 7.92 million, FOX (broadcast) had 4.93 million and MSNBC had 4.7 million. (The Associated Press)
