Lil’ Wayne’s Terrible Lyrics About Civil Rights Beacon Emmett Till

Murdered teen’s family wonders if rapper even understands hurt he’s caused
As if Lil’ Wanye couldn’t get any more obnoxious. The controversial rapper is in hot water for new lyrics on hip hop artist Future’s “Karate Chop” remix track. Lil’ Wayne raps that he’d like to have sex so rough that it would cause as much damage to the woman's genitals as had been done to Emmett Till, a Chicago teen who was tortured and beaten to death by the Mississippi Ku Klux Klan in 1955. Till’s family is calling for the rapper to apologize for the brief reference in the song. “It was a heinous murder,” says Airickca Gordon-Taylor, a cousin of Till’s. “The images that we’re fortunate to have (of his open casket)…demonstrate the ugliness of racism. So [for Lil’ Wayne] to compare a woman’s anatomy to the ugly face of death, it just destroyed me.” Gordon-Taylor says she had to call the elders in the family and explain it to them before they heard it from another source. Epic Records, Future’s record label, reached out to the Till family to apologize on Wednesday, over a conference call that included the Rev. Jesse Jackson. A record executive said the company is doing all it can to have the unauthorized, leaked track removed from websites. Lil’ Wayne has made no public comment through his publicist, nor has he spoken of it on his Twitter account. Gordon-Taylor said Thursday that there had been no apology from the rapper yet.
