Madonna Defends, Explains Irony in Calling President Obama a "Black Muslim"
The singer stirred the pot recently; no surprise there
Madonna is no stranger to controversy, but the singer is now defending suspicious statements she made about President Barack Obama during a recent show. While on stage in the POTUS's hometown of Washington, D.C., Madonna praised the President, encouraged the audience to vote for him, likened him to Martin Luther King Jr.—and then exclaimed, "For better or for worse we have a black Muslim in the White House!," a claim the President himself has denied in the past as he's publicly acknowledged his Christian faith. Responding to the backlash she received, Madonna issued a statement on Tuesday through her spokeswoman: "I was being ironic on stage. Yes, I know Obama is not a Muslim – though I know that plenty of people in this country think he is. And what if he were? The point I was making is that a good man is a good man, no matter who he prays to. I don't care what religion Obama is – nor should anyone else in America." (The Guardian)
