Soledad O’Brien is being replaced in the mornings, black executive resigns
It was recently rumored, but now confirmed: CNN’s is making changes to its anchor lineup and management, which include reassigning popular morning anchor Soledad O'Brien and the resignation of the cable network’s highest-ranking African American executive, Mark Whitaker. CNN is reportedly discussing other job options with O’Brien, as ABC News morning anchor Chris Cuomo is leaving the broadcast network to join CNN evening anchor Erin Burnett in the mornings. O’Brien will be ending her second stint as a morning show host. This news comes as Whitaker, the network’s executive vice president and managing editor, announced Tuesday that he would resign to give new big boss Jeff Zucker the “freedom to communicate one clear vision to the staff.” CNN recently came under fire from the National Association of Black Journalists for the lack of diversity among its prime-time anchors. Whitaker had been assigned that challenge, but no prime-time anchors of color materialized. (AP + Journal-isms)
