Reel Deal: Weekend at the Cinema
What better time to go to the show than on the weekend?
Theatres were packed with moviegoers awaiting Gravity, Captain Phillips, and Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs 2 above all.
The 3D thriller and sci-fi drama, Gravity, takes place in space, just like its soaring numbers. This weekend, the film brought in $44,265,000, celebrating an October record just 10 days post-debut with a total of $123.4 million.
Next on the list was Captain Phillips, which brought in $26,000,000. Having entered theaters this past Friday, Oct 11, this one stars Tom Hanks and Barkhad Abdi. Based on a true story, the action-adventure film encapsulates the story of Captain Richard Phillips as he was hijacked by Somali pirates on the first American cargo ship to be attacked in 200 years.
Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs 2 brought in $14,200,000, bringing the grand total to $78 million. While Rotten Tomatoes movie critics say it's not nearly as clever as the original, this Sony Pictures Animation comedy is a great choice for children and family outings.
