Reel Deal: Weekend at the Cinema with Ender's Game
The holiday season started off with Ender's Game raking in $28 million this weekend.
Having hit theatres on Friday, the science fiction novel adaption, Ender's Game, won over the box office with highest sales by a far stretch. Just below it was the funny film, Bad Grandpa, with 20,500,000, bringing it to a grand total of $62 million.
Following those two top films were Last Vegas and Free Birds, both new to the cinema, as well.
Next on the list was the trio of stellar recent films: Gravity, Captain Phillips, and 12 Years a Slave. Just below 12 Years at $4,600,000 was Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2, with $4,200,000.
Interestingly, box office receipts were lower this week that that of 2012 by almost 10 percent. Perhaps with Day of the Dead and Halloween festivities, people weren't as quick to make it to the theatres as they normally are on the weekends.
Next weekend, it is widely predicted that Thor: The Dark World will take over sales. Having already brought in a whopping $109.4 million from its first 30 territories overseas, we will have to wait until next week to know if it predictions are correct that it will serve as equally successful here in the states.
