Don Cornelius' suicide re-sparks interest in movie idea.

For over the past decade Don Cornelius was shopping around the idea of a Soul Train movie but no one seemed to be interested. But now, after his suicide, interest is said to be generating.

According to The Hollywood Reporter:

Producer Darryl Porter (Dead Presidents), a longtime Cornelius friend and business associate, says he and Don tried but failed to launch a movie with Universal during the 1990s. As recently as 2009, Warner Bros. showed interest in a project. "He wanted to do a buddy action comedy, like Rush Hour set in the world of Soul Train," says a Warners source. But that project also stalled. Porter, who would have been a producer on the film, says a second script, which turned the project into a coming-of-age dance movie, "was not the kind of movie Warners was going to make."

Before his death, Cornelius was also said to be interested in growing the brand via a television and radio station. As now ideas including a musical and TV show are being thrown around.

Magic Johnson has reportedly bought stake in the company so it should be interesting to see what direction the Soul Train goes in the future.
