Rapper promotes debut novel and talks about what he's learned from his troubles

Yesterday, rapper T.I. sat down with the ladies of ABC's The View in one of his first major interviews since his release from prison. Although the rapper was there to promote his debut novel Power & Beauty, the conversation turned to T.I.'s recent jail time and drug abuse.

“I broke the habit,” T.I. admitted of his drug use. “I think it was more recreational than anything else, and it’s just a discipline factor.”

When pressed on why he wouldn't return to prison after two nearly back-to-back stints, T.I. said, "I've accepted in order to have a different result, you have to take a different approach."

Tip also understands why people are so hard on him and his career.

“I understand why people are so critical of me, and I accept that,” he said. “Nobody is tougher on me than I am on myself. And I’m not trying to make excuses and I accept responsibility for everything that I’ve done.”
