Tyler Perry Among Top Nominees for Razzie Awards

One of black Hollywood’s most successful racks up worst performance nods
Triple threat entertainer Tyler Perry garnered multiple Razzie Award nominations for a string of critically panned performances in 2012. The director-actor-writer has been nominated for “worst actress” for his classic drag role Madea in “Madea’s Witness Protection,” worst actor for his leading roles in “Good Deeds” and “Alex Cross,” and worst director for “Madea” and “Good Deeds.” The Razzies, created in 1980 as an antithesis to the self-congratulatory Hollywood awards seasons, hand out awards to the previous years worst and, often, hated projects. This year’s awards show will occur on the eve of the Oscars, Feb. 23. Academy Award winning actress Halle Berry famously accepted her Razzie in person, for her starring role in Catwoman. The winners are determined by a 650-member Golden Raspberry Foundation and about 48,000 ballots on the movie review website Rotten Tomatoes. (Reuters)
