Singing icon’s death tops search company’s trending searches of the year
Google says late music icon Whitney Houston was the “top trending” search of 2012. According to the search company’s year-end “zeitgeist” report, people searched en masse for news about Houston’s accidental drowning in a bathtub before a pre-Grammy Awards party in February. Korean rapper PSY’s “Gangnam Style” music video came in second place, with the clip approaching a billion views on YouTube. Superstorm Sandy was the third most “googled.” Others in the top 10 included the 2012 Olympics in London, the September death of actor Michael Clarke Duncan, and Kate Middleton’s topless photos. Google defines topics as “trending” if they’ve garnered a high amount of traffic over a sustained period of time. (Associated Press)
