Gingrich's Resurrection! Newt Rises to Top of Polls
But Does He Have Staying Power?
According to the latest Gallup Poll, Newt Gingrich has acquired a huge surge in support. Less than a month ago he was trailing Cain, Perry, and Romney. Now, it seems, with Cain pulling out and Perry having memory issues, the fight for the Republican nomination is centered on Romney v. Gingrich. Conventional Campaign v. Unconventional Campaign. Expected Contender v. Unexpected Contender.
Gingrich’s deviations from typical campaign practices seem to be working for him. Who knows if he has enough volunteers to support his efforts to be on the ballots in Alabama and Illinois. His agreement to attend a debate moderated by Donald Trump, screamed ‘RULE BREAKER’ and probably made the other Republican candidates apply a swift sideeye to their campaign staff. The only other candidate that agreed to attend is Rick Santorum, who is barely hanging on in the polls as it is. What would cause Gingrich and Santorum's camp to agree to that debate may be a question better left unanswered.
With the polls on his side, endorsements coming in, and one month left before the nomination voting starts, this could be Gingrich’s moment to take it home. The next few weeks will either show that Gingrich has staying power or that this was just a last hope fizzle before his fire dies like his endorser (Herman Cain).
If he does get the nomination in the end, he would definitely have to up his organization to take on the Big O. Until then, here are the numbers for the recent polls.
