Experts suggest the reason being health care access and cultural differences.
A simple switch to healthier diet and more exercise could bring a plethora of Latinos from the risk of overweight-related health issues to a better, less hazardous lifestyle.
Helen Casillas, a Latina woman of age 44, refused to view her body weight as an issue. After years of living with diabetes and working in the medical field, she died of a heart attack.
This is the probem with the Hispanic community," said Elma Dieppa, Casillas' cousin. "We love our curves, but the line between beautiful and deadly curves is blurred."
Latinos are more vulnerable to cardiovascular disease as other obesity-related health issues, as well as less likely to lose weight overall.
