Can You be Fired for Being Fat?
When a woman is faced with an ultimatum to lose weight or her job, isn't it a bit much?
Tory Johnson didn't think twice as she proceeded to lose 72 pounds in just over a year and half.
In a private meeting with her boss, Johnson was told that her clothes didn't do her justice and she wanted to send her to a stylist. From that, she interpreted the following: "My boss told me I needed to lose weight or kiss my job goodbye."
While slightly inaccurate and perhaps taken out of context, it was this short chat that changed everything for the businesswoman.
"I took it to mean that if I didn't physically reduce my size I would no longer appear on ABC's 'Good Morning America,' where I have been a long-time contributor," she said.
Having been overweight her whole life, she became fed up with a few simple strategies which included eating less, choosing better, and no cheat days. She began to move more, hold herself accountable, and in the first year of dedication, she was down 62 pounds.
"The past doesn't have to dictate the future," she said. "Each of us has the power to change our mind for a happier, healthier, better life."
