You might want to get a new set of friends.
Do you think you need to lose weight? Look around at your friends— are they the healthiest role models? Perhaps it is time to search for some new ones. Check the local gym, Whole Foods, or Meetup.com.
Dr. Robert Kushner of Chicago called it when he said, “Overweight people hang out with other overweight people.” This is referred to as the ‘socialization effect,’ and it is the same for smokers and drinkers, as well.
If you want to pick up better habits—eating and exercise in particular—pick up better friends. “We tend to pick up the habits of those we hang out with the most.”
You don’t necessarily have to totally nix your current crew, but perhaps add in a few hangout sessions with someone a bit healthier, and watch as the new company transpires new changes in your habits, as well.
