Feel Your Boobies
With October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, it is important to understand the science of mammography screening.
Get screened. While research shows it saves lives for women ages 50 to 69, mammograms are not easy to read on women with young, dense breasts. It can lead to false positive results which do require additional testing.
Younger women, particularly those younger than age 40, do not need to get screened if there is no family history. Breast examinations with a regular gynecology visit are highly suggested, though, just to be on the safe side.
With every 1,900 women tested, one life is saved, and a 15 percent decreased risk of death by breast cancer is the result of regular screening for women between ages 40 and 49.
The power of awareness, when it comes to your body, can save your life.
