Fit For 2: 5 Benefits of Exercising with Your Partner
Your partner in life may also be your best partner at the gym.
No matter how much you care about your significant other, the odds are that you’re driving each other toward weight gain. (That’s what happens when you eat out every week and spend long, lazy weekend mornings cuddling in bed.) You can stop that weight gain in its tracts by partnering up to improve your health and fitness levels. Don’t think your life partner would make a good gym partner? Here are a few reasons why teaming up together can be extremely good for your health.
1. Getting Closer
Between work, household responsibilities, and the kids, it can be difficult for a couple to say two words to each other, let alone spend quality time together. A simple evening jog (sans kids) is a wonderful way to catch up with each other after a long day at work and stay in shape. By strengthening your bodies you can also strengthen your relationship.
2. Weight-Loss Support
When a couple exercises together, they’re actually supporting each other’s weight-loss and fitness goals. Getting fit is much easier when you have a partner who’s not only cheering you on, but doing the hard work with you. Plus, you’ll have someone to lean on when the going gets tough.
3. Keeps you in the Game
When the alarm goes off and you just want to stay in bed, your significant other can be there to coax you out of your jammies and into your Nikes.
4. Keeps You Motivated
So there you are on a solo trip to the gym sweating it out the treadmill. You’re exhausted and oh so tempted to hit the stop button and simply walk away from the torment. Now imagine if your significant other was right next to you. You’re engaged in a pleasant conversation that’s helping to take your mind off your pain, and reminding each other that, “you can do it!” By motivating each other to stick to it, you’re more likely to push each other to the next level of fitness.
5. Makes Exercising More Fun
Workouts are much more enjoyable if you’re with someone you love. The right sort of company can turn a monotonous workout session into an enjoyable evening of exercise with a little friendly competition and added laughter.
