Measles in the U.S?
The measles have been brought into the U.S from overseas.
At least 21 attendees of a church in Newark have contracted measles after one person brought it in from overseas. Ranging in age from 4 months to 44 years old, the majority had not been vaccinated.
Children are recommended two doses of combined vaccination for measles, mumps, and rubella, called the MMR, first at 12 to 15 months, then at 4 to 6 years old.
Have you had your measles shots? You may want to set that up.
Texas Department of State Health Services said of the 27 measles cases this year— five were unrelated to the outbreak. There were none last year, and six in 2011.
Symptoms are fever, cough, and facial rash. Spread via cough, sneeze, and personal contact, it is inevitable in a place like church to become infected.
