NYC to Raise Smoking Age?
New York City is making a lot of changes, but some are more successful than others.
A proposal by Mayor Michael Bloomberg would raise the legal age to buy tobacco products from 18 to 21.
Several other states raised the legal age limit from 18 to 19. Various other anti-smoking advertisements have been circulated through other cities, like Chicago and Atlanta.
The idea behind the proposal is that by increasing the legal buying age, fewer kids would be inclined to even try a cigarette.
Estimates suggest tobacco usage would decrease by 55% among 18-to 20-year-olds resulting in a complete drop of 67% among teens.
What do you think of a new legal age limit?
