Stressing Out Your Sanity
Stop getting so stressed out! Stress may lead to dementia.
The two big D’s of mid-life stress, divorce and death, may lead to another D’s: dementia.
Stress hormones that are released when a person deals with difficult times are to blame.
When stress occurs and the hormones are released, they are doing some damage to the brain. Years after a stressful event, the hormones linger at high levels.
There may be hope though, if you’ve already begun stressing out in your middle age. Doctors agree that stress management and behavior therapy can help transition and sort through emotions during stressful events. However, there’s no guarantee they will offset dementia.
