Is Joe Biden Really Being Replaced by Hillary Clinton?
The rumors are likely not true, and here's why.
Lately there’s been rumors of the possibility of Vice President Joe Biden being replaced by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. These are nothing but speculation, probably common around this time in the presidential election. But there are three main reasons why Biden would not be replaced my Hillary Clinton in this years election:
Its better for her.
Hillary Clinton's approval rating from Americans has gone up. Currently at 66%, this is just one percentage point below her all-time high — up from 61% in July 2010. Her high rating came at the time Bill Clinton was impeached on charges of perjury related to Monica Lewinsky. Her being in politics has brought her rating down in the past but while being a part of the Obama Administration, the ratings have gradually increased. The same Gallup poll found Hillary more favorable than Barack Obama at the time. It seems like people like her in this role. Changing over to VP when she’s already making a great impression wouldn’t be the best political move.
Its rare
The last time a president of the United States decided to change VPs during a re-election campaign was in 1976 with President Ford. At the time, Nelson Rockefeller was VP but did not want to run in 1976 so President Ford really had no choice. And before that, 1944 was the last time, when President Roosevelt replaced VP Henry Wallace for Senator Harry Truman. Each of the instances were at least 30 years apart.
One less issue to face with media.

Lastly, considering all of the other issues plaguing the campaign: gay marriage, the economy, fund raising, taxes, is it really smart to create yet another firestorm for the media? Questions would swirl: Why is Biden being replaced? What does this mean for the Obama Administration? Is it falling apart? Especially this close to the conventions, changing VPs would not only confuse voters but cause an immediate public relations crisis for the Obama Administration.
Besides, who doesn’t like Joe Bidens’ sense of humor?
