Police estimate enough drugs to serve 10,000 people.
Maryland State Police just ruined somebody's weekend.
CBS Baltimore reports that the squad busted 37-year old Alterwick Boyd driving down I-95 from New Jersey making his way to North Carolina with more than $100,000 worth of heroin.
Authorities were alerted when they spotted Boyd's SUV trailing another car. They called in a drug unit and pulled him over. That's when the drug-sniffing dog found the stash.
An additional amount of cash was also found in the vehicle bringing the total value of the bust to $180,000. Police say that there were enough drugs to serve up to 10,000 customers.
"This was a significant arrest and interdiction in that 5,000 street sales of heroin won’t occur because that trooper was observant,” says Greg Shipley, spokesman for the Maryland State Police.
If convicted, Boyd faces 75 years in prison. He remains in the Cecil County Jail on a $200,000 bond.
