A guide to popping the question!
Valentine’s Day not only has the distinction of being the most popular holiday for weddings, it’s also a popular time to pop the question. If you’re planning on proposing this Valentine’s Day, here are some tips to help you secure your significant other’s hand in marriage.
Propose With a Ring: This seems like common sense given how many television shows and films feature marriage proposal scenes with a man on bended knee, ring in hand. In reality, however, some men don’t have a ring ready when they propose. A The Knot.com survey revealed that proposing without a ring is the biggest blunder a man can make. That’s because it may not seem like a legitimate proposal to a woman’s friends and family. The Knot advises men who are unsure about which engagement ring to pick to get their lady’s advice beforehand.
Say the Words “Will You Marry Me?”: According to The Knot, 68 percent of women say that it’s essential to hear the words “will you marry me?” when their man proposes. Given how important this question seems to be to women, don’t make the mistake of forgetting to say them during your proposal.
Don’t Make Your Proposal Complicated: About.com’s Marriage site advises against doing something tricky as you propose, such as tying the engagement ring to some object or hiding it. The more complicated your proposal is the more likely it will go wrong.
Discuss Marriage With Your Partner First: Don’t propose without talking things over with your significant other first. Know that you’re both on the same page in terms of marriage and your future life together, About.com advises.
Propose Somewhere With Meaning: Pop the question at a location that means something to both of you. It could be the restaurant where you had your first date, a vacation spot you both enjoy or another place with sentimental value.
