Latest development connected to 2011 attack and murder of black mechanic
A sixth man has pleaded guilty Thursday to federal hate crime charges for harassing African Americans resident of Jackson Mississippi in 2011, federal prosecutors said. John Paul Dominick, 21, along with five other people, was part of a group of young white males and females who made sport of attacking blacks, especially those they believed were homeless or intoxicated. The group boasted about their exploits. Prosecutors say Dominick threw bottles and used slingshots against black people. He is awaiting sentencing on the federal charges – the conspiracy charge carries a maximum penalty of five years; hate crimes carry a maximum of 10 years unless a death occurred, then the maximum is life in prison. Some of Dominick’s associates have pleaded guilty to hate crimes in connection to the 2011 hit-and-run death of James Craig Anderson, a black mechanic in Jackson, Miss. The crime was caught on a nearby motel security camera. (Clarion-Ledger)
