Feds unveil conspiracy, mail fraud and wire fraud charges
This can’t be good for justice in Philadelphia. Federal prosecutors on Thursday unsealed numerous fraud charges against nine sitting and former Philadelphia Traffic Court judges accused of fixing tickets for political, business and social friends in return for favors. They raked in free car repairs and shipments of seafood, according to prosecuting documents. Those seeking to have their traffic violations fixed included local politicians. If convicted on all counts, all but one of the judges face a maximum sentence of more than 100 years in prison and millions of dollars in fines, according to the U.S. attorney’s office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
