Top High School Recruit Yuri Wright Loses Scholarships over Tweets
Star football player could have went to Michigan, lands at Colorado instead
Top football recruit Yuri Wright has learned a valuable lesson on why you have to watch what you say on twitter.
The much heralded cornerback out of Don Bosco Prep in New Jersey looked to be on his way to the storied University of Michigan, winners of the 2012 Sugar Bowl. That is until the school caught wind of his behavior on twitter.
At random moments through 2011, the high school senior tweeted out vulgar and insensitive messages that might not have been sweated in a locker room, but definitely on the internet. Because of his tweets, he was expelled from school, and Michigan as well as a number of other top programs backed off from recruiting him.
We're thinking that tweet about wanting to marry a white woman might have been the straw that broke the camel's back. This might also be the first time in history where sex with a woman didn't get an athlete in trouble, but simply talking about it did.
All isn't lost for Wright though. This week he wound up signing on to play for the University of Colorado, who used to be really good in the 90's but have either been average or just flat out sucked since then. Their 2011 record was 3-10. They were also one of the worst defensive teams in all of college football last season, looks like he has his work cut out for him.
Plus, it is Colorado. Plenty of white women for him there.
