Health Alert: Blacks Have More Preventable Hospitalizations for High Blood Pressure

Researchers say all racial groups need access to care
Blacks have higher rates of preventable hospitalization for hypertension (also known as high blood pressure) than whites, according to a new study. Researchers believe the hospitalization indicates the failure of other outpatient and health systems' prevention methods, but in order to close the racial gap, they suggest increasing access to care for all racial groups, improving treatment for high blood pressure, and expanding primary prevention and early diagnosis of hypertension. Researchers say "these types of interventions are believed by many clinical experts to reduce the use of hospitals." (CDC)
