Manufacturing factory halts production after riots break out among workers
Did you get your hands on one of Apple’s new iPhone 5 smartphones last week? In the three days since it hit stores, the technology giant 5 million devices were sold and that it has run out of its initial supply. Eager customers who are still pre-ordering the device online were getting estimated shipping dates in October. Complicating matters is the shutdown of Apple’s largest contract manufacturer of the iPhone, China’s Foxconn Technology. The factory was shut down over the weekend after a riot broke out among 2,000 employees. Still, analysts expect the iPhone 5 to help Apple set more smartphone records. Colin Gillis, a research analyst with BGC, said: "It's not just enough for them to break records but to smash them." (Reuters)
